I am a series of elecrochemical impulses piloting a meatsuit through space. But you can call me Jamie.
I like to make stuff- since you're here you probably already knew that. I've always liked to try new things, but I have an unfortunate tendency to get bored with them quickly and never stick with anything long enough to get good at it. That is, until I discovered resin! Don't get me wrong, I know I'm not the Michelangelo of epoxy, but I enjoy it enough to keep trying, and every once in a while I get lucky and things work out okay. Resin isn't very forgiving- you're definitely forced to own your screw ups, but when something actually comes out the way you see it in your head it's a pretty rewarding experience. If you've been thinking about trying it, consider this a sign. Feel free to reach out with any questions and I'll do my best to point you in the right direction!
Beyond resin and my new found love of making crafts using only items found at the Dollar Tree, I like taking pictures of stuff. Despite my mother's abhorrence of technology, I'm sure she was tickled with the advent of digital cameras and smartphones so she could stop developing dozens of rolls of film only to find them full of artistic snapshots of the kitchen chair. Sorry, mom! But those pictures led me to realize that photography is the closest thing we currently have to a time machine (looking at you, lazy scientists!), and a halfway decent shot of something cool or meaningful can have the power to bring you back to that moment no matter how much time has passed. Take pictures of everything, kids. You'll want them some day, I can promise you that.
I also like to write. I have about 30 short stories I will never finish and about 800 more that live rent free in my head that I haven't even started. If we're counting the awkward teenage years of Fanfiction, I've been writing for well over 20 years now, but as most people who know anything about Fanfiction would tend to agree, some things are better forgotten. I owe an apology to many a fictional character, but it's cheaper than drugs I suppose. I'll spare you that humiliation, but there have been some poems I've written here and there that I didn't instantly regret. I'll throw those up here on the blog page.
I've also been dabbling with learning different programming languages, though I haven't decided to what end yet. Python will always have my heart, but come to find out it's much easier to write websites in languages like HTML and CSS which were actually designed to, you know, write websites. Who knew? But thanks to MySpace I already knew enough of that to get started, which is how we got here- it may not be perfect or fancy, but with a little help from Google I did it myself, so I'm proud of that. And I think everything even works!
That's my life's story in a nutshell. If you've made it this far, you're in the 99th percentile of people who have larger attention spans than I do, so congratulations. Maybe you're an old friend continuing to enable my nonsense, or perhaps our paths crossed at a craft show. Maybe you've seen my stuff on social media and tracked me down... creep. But regardless of the circumstances that led you here, I would like to welcome you to my weird little world. I hope you stay a while.
There will probably be more to come just as soon as I figure out how to do it. Ha!
